BitSight Executive Chairman of the Board Receives Recognition By Ronald McDonald House

Over 15 years ago, Shaun McConnon, Bitsight’s former CEO and current Executive Chairman of the Board, became involved with giving back to the local Boston community. Shaun and his wife, Bonnie, sat on the Board for a Sudbury-based charity benefitting children with cancer, which was affiliated with the first Proton Beam at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).

While working with this organization, Shaun and Bonnie recognized the tremendous Shaun McConnon Bitsightstrain that cancer treatments can take on the families of child patients — most notably, the financial strain of traveling into the city and staying in a hotel close to the hospital for a steep rate. Sometimes families needed to stay in the city for treatments that could last up to 4-8 weeks.

The McConnons knew that this was a cause they were passionate about, and decided to form their own non-profit organization, Home Away Boston. Home Away was founded in 2010, and as of this fall, has now merged with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of New England to provide housing to families of cancer patients in the Boston area. While Home Away began in 2010 with 3 fully-furnished apartments, they now have 9 apartments and a community center.

This fall, the community room at the Ronald McDonald House at Boston Harbor was dedicated to Shaun and Bonnie McConnon, as they were honored for their commitment to the organization. We’re proud to call the McConnons part of the Bitsight family, and proud to be involved with giving back to our local community in such a way. As Shaun said, “We can do better work together.”
